What is a browser?
A browser is an application that allows the end user to see the
World Wide Web. The World Wide Web (WWW) is a part of the Internet.
E-mail, Newsgroups, telnet, FTP are all parts of the internet as
well. They also have programs that allow them to be used. The WWW
is what most people will refer to as "The Internet".
What browser do I use?
Most new computers come with a browser preinstalled, usually two.

What was the first browser?
The first browser was called Mosaic and was written in 1994 at
a college.
Netscape Navigator soon followed.
Many companies were soon to introduce other browsers.
Microsoft entered the browser market in August of 1995 when it introduced
Windows 95.
Internet Explorer 1.0 a part of Microsoft Plus! and soon version
2.0 followed.
Netscape Navigator was in version 2.0 at this time.
Today the most popular browsers are manufactured by Netscape and
Microsoft.
Both companies released version 3.0 of their browsers in August
1996.
In the spring of 1997 Netscape introduced a product Netscape Communicator
4.0, an upgrade to its Navigator product.
Microsoft released Internet Explorer 4.0 in September of 1997.

Title Bar - Shows the name of the page being displayed.
Menu Bar - Includes the following menus:
File - Includes Open, Print, and Exit
Edit - Contains commands for Find, Cut, Copy, and Paste.
View - Allows you to change your screen appearance.
Go - Starts external programs and shows where you have been.
Favorites - Contains all sites you have marked as "Favorites"
Help - Allows you to search for help and connect to the Microsoft
Web site for more help
Tool Bar - Contains the following commands:
Back - Returns to the last visited page.
Forward - Moves you one page forward.
Stop - Stops the current operation.
Refresh - Reloads the current page.
Home - Returns you to the home page selected in the options
panel.
Search - Brings up the search page selected in the options panel.
Favorites - Functions just like the Favorites Menu.
Print - Sends the current page to the printer.
Font - Makes the font size larger or smaller.
You might also have the following on your Tool Bar:

Address Bar - contains the address for your currently displayed

Links Bar (may be off) - Contains five links that you can set

If you have a Bar selected (Search, Favorites, History, Channels)
your left side of the screen will have a menu like bar that allows
you to select items.
